مجموعه Windows Server با کد نیم Windows Server 8، در واقع ششمین عرضه از سیستم عامل های ویندوز سرور کمپانی مایکروسافت است و همزمان با موفقیت نسخه نهایی ویندوز 8، مایکروسافت نسخه تحت سرور این سیستم عامل را نیز با نام مجموعه Windows Server عرضه کرد و بر خلاف نسخه های قبل، این نسخه از سیستم عامل ویندوز سرور مایکروسافت، از معماری Itanium کمپانی اینتل پشتیبانی نداشته و شامل 4 نسخه مختلف است و در مجموعه Windows Server، قابلیت های جدیدی اضافه شده اند تا نسبت به نسخه قبل، شاهد بهینه سازی ها و پیشرفت های اساسی باشیم و همچنین با توجه به افزایش کاربرد سیستم رایانش ابری، مجموعه Windows Server این امکان را نیز در خود جای داده است.
مجموعه Windows Server، در واقع سیستم عامل هایی هستند که بر روی کامپیوترهای سرور نصب شده و وظیفه خدمت رسانی به کاربران و مراجعه کنندگان را بر عهده می گیرند، از این رو استفاده از آن به عناون سیستم عامل کاربران خانگی توصیه نمی شود و از مجموعه Windows Server برای مدیریت شبکه های کامپیوتری ،راه اندازی سرورهای اینترنتی و شبکه های بسیار بزرگ به صورت متمرکز با بی نهایت سیستم طراحی شده و جهت ارائه آنها به کاربران استفاده می شود و از دیگر امکانات این مجموعه Windows Serverدارای اتوران اختصاصی به همراه فیلم آموزشی نصب و فعال سازی است و قابل نصب بر روی ویندوزهای 7 و 8 و 10 می باشد.
